Here’s what happens to me every October: The first comes around and I’m already thinking about Halloween, imagining the perfect costume and dreaming big. But then, the next thing I know, its Halloween and I never got around to getting a costume! I’m panicking, and I have nothing to wear… or so I thought! There’s a surprising amount that can be done with makeup and the clothes already in your closet! In this post I’ll visit two classics that can be recreated without much planning ahead!
Some may say a cat costume is as basic as it comes, but this is a new take on the classic cat…and I love cats, so it will never get old for me. Instead of buying cat ears, or trying to find them the day of, twist your hair into two little buns on to the top of your head. It gives the illusion of ears without having to buy them! You could do all your hair if you wanted as well. The makeup is also easy to reproduce. I googled cat makeup, and went from there. As for an outfit, you can just wear anything black! I chose a fur vest to enhance the cat theme. but its not necessary.
The Mime/ The Clown
With the clown from the new season of American Horror Story, its safe to say the creepy clown has been resurrected. If you’re too scared of clowns, or don’t want to commit to a full face makeup for the whole night, you can settle for the more subtle mime. It will get the same effect! Again, I googled mimes, and went from there. As far as what to wear, throw on a striped t-shirt with black pants or leggings! You can wear a knit cap if you don’t have a beret, which also gives the costume a more modern look. You can also wear gloves if you want to go all out!
Really the basis for any last minute costume is all about the makeup! It can transform any outfit into a costume! So, pick a character, google an image and start playing around! Halloween is coming!
