For whatever reason, Valentine’s Day gets a bad rep. Maybe it’s because people think it’s just another excuse for companies to make money, or maybe it’s because it comes with high expectations and usually ends up in disappointment. Everyone seems to be just a little bit bitter when V-Day comes around. Yet personally, I love Valentine’s Day. Whether I happen to have a love interest at the time or not, it doesn’t matter. For me, the point of Valentine’s day is to remind those around you that you love them and that you’re thankful to have them in your life, because sometimes we just don’t say it enough. And honestly, if anything, it’s just an excuse to eat chocolate…so stop complaining.
So for today’s post I wanted to give you guys some date ideas and show you some outfits that would work for the occasion. Whether you’re going out with your friend, lover, or parents, doesn’t matter… you should still take the time to have a little fun and celebrate those you love.
The Classic Dinner and a Movie
There’s nothing wrong with this go-to date night activity. Normally I’d be wearing jeans and a comfy sweater for this kind of night, but for Valentine’s Day you might want to spice it up a little. I went with black jeans, a simple tank and a floral pink blazer. This outfit is casual enough for a movie but can also transition into dinner and even drinks if your night is going well…
Dinner a Night Out on the Town
This Valentine’s day, try changing things up a bit. Pick a restaurant you’ve never been to before for dinner, and stay away from your usual bar if you’re going out for drinks. There are probably hundreds of bars and restaurants near you that you’ve never taken the time to try out, so this V-Day be adventurous with your loved one by your side. And while you’re at it… wear a hot dress and leather jacket.
This could be a day or night activity, but if you love wine as much as I do you should definitely do some tasting this weekend (check groupon for some good deals at a vineyard near you!) For the occasion, no matter what you wear, wear something dark, just incase you get a little crazy with a glass of red in your hand…
If you’re looking to avoid some of the V-Day romance, head to a local concert Saturday night. Even if it’s a band you’ve never heard of, it will definitely be a night to remember. For the occasion, go dark and mysterious, and don’t be afraid to show a little skin.
Any Daytime Activity
Valentine’s Day shouldn’t just be celebrated at nighttime. Do something fun during the day! Check out a near by aquarium, go to a cooking class, go bowling, try pottery painting, go on a picnic (if it’s warm enough obviously), or drive to a nearby city and be tourists for the day… just try something new! Whatever you do, a flowy sweater is always a good choice, but a flowy sweater with an open back? Even better.
