The Controversial Crop Top
It’s no secret that the crop top has taken fashion by storm. This flirty trend has been popping up in stores everywhere and has made a huge appearance on the runway for Spring 2014. However, for many people, this trend is somewhat controversial, being that it can be inappropriate and unflattering at times.
In my opinion, the crop top is a fun a flirty trend that can be worn by all women of every shape and size, as long as it is worn in a tasteful manner. Thus, here are some suggested Do’s and Don’ts that are essential to making this trend work for you!
Do: Keep it simple!
Crop tops are already a bold statement, so there is no need to overdo it with crazy accessories and prints. Just keep your look toned down and the crop top will do all the talking.
Don’t: Expose your entire stomach
In my opinion, the number one mistake women make while sporting a crop top is showing too much skin. Only a few inches of skin should be showing to avoid going over the top. We should all also remember to HIDE THE BELLY BUTTON! If your crop top is super short, try wearing a high waisted skirt or pants to cover up the majority of your midriff.
Do: Layer up!
If your top is exposing a little more than you’d like, try layering it with a cute jacket or sweater to draw the attention away from your belly! If you want to wear your favorite crop top but you’re not in the mood to expose skin, try layering it on top of a dress!
Don’t: Skimp out on coverage
A crop top is a fun way to show a little skin, but if you’re going to take the risk, be sure to dress modestly for the remainder of your look. A crop top and mini skirt probably won’t make the best combo. Instead pair it with a high waisted midi skirt to cover your legs and show off those fierce curves! If you want to go the shorts route, try wearing a long sleeve crop to avoid too much exposure.
Just remember to keep them guessing!
