Dressing For Your Body Type: Part 2
This week, we as Shameless Girls have filled the blog with all our different bodies, and showing how to embrace and dressing your body size and shape. That way, you can present the best you out into to the world!
Size, Weight, Height and Looks are all things that to most girls, are a sensitive subject; including myself. And it’s because everywhere you look there is a perfect specimen trying to sell you something that won’t fit you the same way. Eating disorders, bad body image, self image and psychological disorders are all serious things that occur from unrealistic views of yourself.
I know, it’s hard to look into the mirror sometimes and realize that as hard as work you will never look like a Victoria’s Secret model (and if you do look like one, I can I have your genes please?!)
Isn’t that almost the best part? That we don’t all look the same? That we have flaws and characters and come in all different shapes, sizes, and different skin, hair and eye colors? It’s what makes you, you. And it’s the qualities that only one person has (that others don’t), to me, that is ultimately the most attractive. I know its the quirks and individuality of someone that makes me drawn to them. Ok. Ok. Enough about my attractions. Haha
What makes you you is exactly that…….and it’s the way you were created to be!
I know every body image specialist says work for your standards, be happy in your own skin, and realize how special and beautiful you are. Love you for you. And as hokey as they sound, they are right! But that doesn’t mean you can’t be constantly improving yourself to be the best beautiful YOU that you can be.
But remember, being the best YOU is for YOURSELF only (to fit the standards that you hold yourself accountable for)
So right now, I’m a tired, makeup-less, bed-headed, 5’9″ ex-college athlete (that needs to remember how much she “loves” running because she loves her legs and booty….right Emily?!…..yesss -__- ), with a Newspaper torso and long limbs….
What does all that mean for styling this body type?
It means that balancing a loose flowy top with tight pants will hide that your torso doesn’t really have a shape, and show off your arms and legs.
Do: Accentuate your money makers, your legs and arms
Don’t: Wear Dresses that are too short or wear anything that
draws attention to your shoulders or your middle (Padded shoulders, dresses with a print just at the torso…)
(From your shoulders to waist, to hips you don’t really differ drastically)
So accentuating those parts will only make them look bigger
Do: Draw attention to your waist when trying to create a waistline (pants, skirts tucked in that sit at the smallest part of your waist to create a waistline)
Do: Use Color in specific parts of your body (darks on top will give your shoulders and the illusion you are smaller in those areas.
Do: Wear everything with fearless adventure and confidence!
