A Take on Fall’s Trends 2014
We (as in all us Shameless Girls) are dedicating this week to Fall 2014 Trends! Each of us are going to share our personal interpretations of this season’s looks. There are a lot of trends, and a lot of us, so we’re happy to show you how to make all these your own.
Here's What to Look For:
Dresses over pants|capes|oxfords|extreme turtlenecks|fur |sneakers|plaids|extreme oversized pieces|the 60’s |pastels|animal accents|midis|leopard|robe coats
We saw these trends walk down the runway Spring 2014, which has given us plenty of months to ponder how we feel about them. And, for the fashion forwards, those months have been dedicated to getting closets ready, and buying pieces required to obtain these looks!
Never-the-less, here they are again. Today’s how to interpret these trends all your own! They don’t require much shopping past fun finds that already exist in your closets. So grab a chunky 3XL knit, a pair of pants, sneakers and dresses and mash ’em all together! Oh, and don’t forget to follow the rest of the girls this week to see which interpretations speak to you the most!
“For fall knits, nothing is too big or too intricate. And that’s the way we like it. From cozy pants at Marc Jacobs and Céline that promise to alleviate the need for tights, to similarly warm varieties at Stella McCartney, the sweater is no longer relegated to the top half.”-Elle.com
Knit everything is the way to go, and it goes past just cable sweaters. But this sweater is a great staple to start layering knits with. Add it to all the rest of the trends, sneakers, layers, chunky knits, midis, if it’s pastel there’s another……the list goes on and on.
“I like the idea of the oversize trend sticking around for fall mainly because it’s the best way to hide an extra few pounds. If this terrible winter has taught me anything, it’s that I am unwilling to trek to the gym in the snow. All hail bigger sweaters, pants, and coats. The bigger the better!”- Elle.com
This COS Shirt Dress is perfection, in the summer I wore it as a dress and an oversized top opened with shorts, but now for fall, put it over pants to emphasize the oversized trend.
“Fair Isle prints, chunky sweaters, and oversize hats remind us of worn leather couches, fireside chats, and brimming goblets of Merlot. Yum.”-Elle.com
This is a Ralph Lauren Sport Sweater from a couple winters ago. Not only does it have the Fair Isle Print thing going for it, but it’s a knit AND its oversized; Perfection. AND pairing it with a midi skirt and ankle boots just makes YOU fall…..period.
“Who wants to just wear a dress anymore? No one. It’s just too easy. For next season, designers are challenging us to wear pants and a dress.”- Elle.com
This dress from Free People, was seen in one of my first posts. I love the sleeves and couldn’t part with it for fall yet, so adding leather leggings and leather boots falls-it-up to pull off the dress over pant trend.
This Free People dress I couldn’t part with either, I love the sheerness and texture. Adding it with Doc Martens and Leather Leggings granges up the dress over pant theme, and makes it more of a monochromatic discrete-street style.
“As someone who is always cold, I am so thrilled to see the development of the turtleneck into something that more closely resembles a sock for your whole head.”- Elle.com
Having a Grandmother who immigrated here from Belfast, Ireland when she was 16 definitely helps when you are looking for a Fair Isle Extreme Turtleneck. But, to make it current, I cut and sewed side slits to give this bulky traditional sweater a more current feel for fall.
“Your feet can rejoice because they are officially getting a break from heels. Designers have declared sneakers as the footwear of the moment. Hopefully models will have surer footing down the runway moving forward. That would really make things go a lot faster.”- Elle.com
Converse are the best! They are great classic sneakers to pull off a look and still be comfortable. Be completely on trend with a pastel oversized knit sweater, a midi skirt, and finish it off with a great necklace.
For a more relaxed sneaker looks, add more athletic sneakers (like these retro neon Nike Air Max’s) a pair of pants, like my go-to leather leggings, and a loose dress top, like my favorite oversized COS shirt dress.
LOVE FALL! THESE TRANDS ARE SO COMFY! MAKE IT YOUR OWN! ENJOY!
